2. Lab Description
The Digital IC Design Laboratory of HCMUTE located in Room 402A/B (D Building) contains digital IC FPGA development kits. This LAB instructs students the whole process of combinational and sequential circuit designs using VHDL. The students firstly design digital IC systems in VHDL hardware description languages on EDA software supported by Xilinx and Altera. Finally, the functions of the designed digital systems are verified by simulation software before being tested on FPGA platforms.

DE2i-150 FPGA Development Kit


A groundbreaking embedded platform that combines an Intel embedded N2600 processor with the flexibility of an Altera Cyclone IV GX FPGA, DE2i-150 is a full-featured computer system that fuses together the world of high performance processing and unbelievably high configurability. The Altera Cyclone IV GX FPGA on the DE2i-150 board is able speed up the responsiveness of the system while still keeping your solution cost and power effective.

DE2i-150 is equipped with around 150K logic elements with ultimate flexibility in terms of reconfiguration of actual hardware circuity and intellectual property as well as on-board multimedia peripherals, extendibility options for a true system-ready solution for any task.

The Intel Atom processor and the FPGA device are linked together via two high-speed PCIe lanes such that high speed communication between them is guaranteed. DE2i-150 offers a powerful hardware-software co-development environment with amazing and unlimited potential. 

DE2i-150 is selected as the instant boot platform by WinZent for its wION (Instant ON) legacy BIOS solution in 2014.

Altera DE2-115 Development and Education Board


The DE2 series has consistently been at the forefront of educational development boards by distinguishing itself with an abundance of interfaces to accommodate various application needs. Extending its leadership and success, Terasic announces the latest DE2-115 that features the Cyclone IV E device. Responding to increased versatile  low-cost spectrum needs driven by the demand for mobile video, voice, data access, and the hunger for high-quality images, the new DE2-115 offers an optimal balance of low cost, low power and a rich supply of logic, memory and DSP capabilities.

The Cyclone EP4CE115 device equipped on the DE2-115 features 114,480 logic elements (LEs), the largest offered in the Cyclone IV E series, up to 3.9-Mbits of RAM, and 266 multipliers. In addition, it delivers an unprecedented combination of low cost and functionality, and lower power compared to previous generation Cyclone devices.

The DE2-115 adopts similar features from the earlier DE2 series primarily the DE2-70, as well as additional interfaces to support mainstream protocols including Gigabit Ethernet (GbE). A High-Speed Mezzanine Card (HSMC) connector is provided to support additional functionality and connectivity via HSMC daughter cards and cables. For large-scale ASIC prototype development, a connection can be made with two or more FPGA-based boards by means of a HSMC cable through the HSMC connector.

Genesys Virtex-5 FPGA Development Board


Digilent's Genesys board brings the power of the Xilinx® Virtex®-5 FPGA to a surprisingly uncomplicated design platform. With gigabit ethernet, high-speed memory, high-resolution audio & video circuits, and a host of USB connectivity options, the Genesys board includes proven circuits used in the most demanding designs. From complex systems to dedicated high-performance applications, the Genesys board brings workable solutions to complex problems.

The Genesys board can be communicated with and programmed by the Digilent Adept software. In addition, the board can be programmed by Xilinx's iMPACT™.

Nexys 3 Spartan-6 FPGA Trainer Board

The Nexys 3 digital system development platform features the newest Spartan®-6 FPGA from Xilinx®, 48Mbytes of external memory (including two non-volatile phase-change memories from Micron®), and enough I/O devices and ports to host a wide variety of digital systems. The Nexys 3 is an ideal platform for any engineer to gain experience with Xilinx's latest technologies, and it is perfectly suited to the classroom - new students can build logic circuits without worrying about complex external interfaces, and more advanced students can build complete digital systems, including controllers, CODECs, and embedded processors.

The on-board Adept high-speed USB2 port provides board power, FPGA programming, and user-data transfers at rates up to 38Mbytes/sec. A large collection of low-cost peripheral boards, including more than 30 Pmods and several new Vmods, can add additional features to the Nexys 3, including A/D and D/A converters, breadboards, motor drivers, displays, etc. The Nexys 3 is fully compatible with all Xilinx tools, including the free WebPACK™ as well as ChipScope™, EDK (embedded processor design kit), and other tools.
