The Conference

IETEC’13 is the second conference in the IETEC series. It will be held in beautiful Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, between 3 and 6 November 2013. IETEC'13 brings together a wide range of engineering and technology education stakeholders from around the globe to explore the building of new capacities in engineering and technology education that are essential in creating environmentally and socially sustainable 21st century economies. This conference aims to identify and explore the latest trends and developments that will shape the future worlds of engineering and technology education.


  • Interactive workshops for all stakeholders.
  • Several special plenary sessions.
  • The full papers submitted and presented at the conference will be considered by the award committee for the best paper awards of the IETEC'13.
  • The awarded papers and the other selected papers will be invited to publish in the special issues of International Journal of Quality Assurance in Engineering and Technology education (IJQAETE).
  • The selected papers of the IETEC'13 will be published in an edited book by IGI Global.
  • Exhibition stalls of engineering education books, softwares, tools and equipments.
  • Showcasing international universities and organisations.
  • Opportunities for international collaborations in engineering and technology education.

The papers

The IETEC’13 Conference Committee invites your participation in IETEC’13. IETEC’13 seeks scholarly paper proposals that seek to identify, reflect on, or respond to, trends, innovations and developments that relate to the global future of engineering and technology education and its stakeholders. This includes interdisciplinary, environmental and social as well as technological issues. We expect papers to offer conference participants a fresh or novel perspective and therefore contain original contributions be they theoretical, experimental or application-focused, or unique reports of experience.

The topics

Conference topics include but are not limited to:

• Emerging trends in engineering and/or technology and their educational impact.

Emerging social, environmental, and policy issues in engineering/technology education.

• Sustainability: problematic, possibilities and implications for practice.

• The social media revolution and engineering/technology education.

• Interdisciplinary approaches to engineering/technology education.

• Research on engineering and technology education pedagogy.

• New interdisciplinary research paradigms that better address compelling social priorities

• Teaching-research nexus in engineering and technology education.

• Supervision in post-graduate and trans-cultural engineering and technology education settings.

• Emerging issues in local, regional and/or international engineering/technology education policy

• Innovative engineering and technology education instructional design, development and evaluation.

• Best-in-class inter-active teaching and learning approaches in engineering and technology education.

• Exemplars of good practice in engineering and technology education, such as in distance, on-line,    blended or flexible learning approaches, or in areas such as assessment and evaluation.

• Outcomes-based, internationally portable, student-centred engineering and technology curricula.

• Project/problem-based learning experiences in engineering and technology education.

• The development and/or implementation of engineering and technology education curricula that enhance    recruitment, enrolment, and graduation of underrepresented populations.

• Discipline and pedagogical staff development in engineering and technology education.

• Internationalization and/or international collaborations in engineering and technology education.

• Academic/industry workplace-based learning opportunities in engineering and technology education.

IETEC’13 also introduces a ‘Critical Friend Scheme’. The aim is to provide support for authors whose first language is not English and/or who are not yet familiar with the requirements of conference papers.
